Getting There & Away
Halong City is 160 km from Hanoi, 55 km from Cam Pha. The one-way trip from Hanoi to Halong City takes about three hours by car.
From Hanoi
From Hanoi, the popular way to come is by catching a Hoang Long express bus from Kim Ma bus station in Nguyen Thai Hoc street (tel: 845-2846). The bus departs every 25 minutes. Ticket prices for one way is VND 30,000.
In Halong City
In Halong City, you can catch Hanoi-bound buses from Mien Tay bus station (Ben Xe Mien Tay tel: 840-410) in Bai Chay. The first bus, in either direction, is at 7:30 AM and the last is at 2:30 PM.
Buses to Haiphong
Buses to Haiphong depart from the bus station about 1 km from the Halong hotel. The trip takes approximately two hours. Mien Dong bus station (Ben Xe Mien Dong) in Hon Gai is where buses to points north-east (such as Mong Cai on the China border) leave from.
There are daily hydrofoils connecting Hon Gai with Haiphong and taking about three hours.

Getting Around
Ha Long Taxi

Prices: VND 13,000 for the first 2 km and VND 3,000 for each additional
km.
When traveling by taxi from Bai Chay to Hon Gai or vice-versa, taxis
will carry passengers only as far as the ferry docks. Tourists must
then cross Cua Luc by ferry and be picked up by another of the company¿s
taxis which will be sent to meet them.
Taxi-motorcycles (xe om)
These are available everywhere. The usual fare is VND 1000 per km.
They can always be hired on either side of the ferry.
Hiring a taxi-motorcycle in Ha Long is usually straight forward;
disagreements are unusual and there are few problems. The taxi-motorcycle
drivers can often provide information about the location of hotels
and restaurants when the address is difficult to find.
